During one of my university modules for Graphic Design, we had to collaborate with Interior, Product and Furniture Design and work on a branding brief together. The task was to either brand, rebrand or update the Ryanair brand, and as a team we chose to update it. The final outcome was to redefine Ryanair's reputation and modernise the company for Ryanair's customers.
Paying homage to Ryanair's Irish heritage, I began by looking at existing icons of the Irish harp. I then explored Ryanair's existing logo and developed it to look more stylish and modern. Once the team was happy with the logo, I explored colour combinations and type to emphasise the company's dedication to sustainability.
Recognising that Ryanair had an iconic and recognisable brand, as a team we decided to improve the reputation of a company. We prioritised comfort and relaxation and we decided to design a cafe which would represent these beliefs. I decided to design a logo based off coffee stains, to add an authentic and modern look to Ryanair.
In addition to the cafe, I also designed a new departure board and plane ticket. As a team we decided to use a texture which incorporated the Irish mountainous landscape. Using blue, taken as a primary colour from the existing logo, this helped the other colours to stand out.
These are images of how the cafe logo would look in the cafe designed by the Interior Designers. The aim was to make the interior look welcoming, comfortable, modern, and sustainable. The plants were added to enhance the sustainable message. This project taught me how to effectively collaborate as a team, and that there needs to be a certain level of assertiveness to communicate ideas.
